Kullar Viimne

"It is an intimate look into the life of two boys as they celebrate their love to reach the main goal of life: happiness. And there is only one happiness in life: to love and be loved.First of all, this subject is for me a question of respecting human being with his free will and choices… a political film through a personal story. I come from a post-communist country. Estonia was occupied by Soviet Union for 50 years. During Soviet time we didn’t have any debates about minority rights. It’s not better in our contemporary life, also referred to as ‘wild capitalism’. Although we think, we are liberal and respect freedom of personal choice in all aspects of life, there are issues, where we do not feel ourselves too comfortable. For example, the public debate about the same-sex couples in Estonia is almost missing and full of prejudice. The question is mostly coming up in tabloid papers only, where from time to time some sarcastic reflections from opinion leaders (themselves supposedly heterosexuals) come up. Their point of view is usually simplistic - that gay couples don’t produce children and we need not to promote it, in order to protect our tiny nation (around 1 million native Estonians) from disappearing."
