Making a documentary film in another country, another school and another language; working with a triangular team from Belgium/Estonia/Bulgaria and carrying out the post-production work with a student coming from another school: these are the challenges of TRIDOC.

The project brings together three schools of cinema : the IAD (Institut des Arts de Diffusion) in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, the NATFA (National Academy for Theatre & Film Arts) in Sofia, Bulgaria and the BFM (Baltic Film and Media School) in Tallinn, Estonia. The project is supported by the MEDIA 2007 Programme of the European Union.

Four documentary films were scheduled in 2008. One has to been made by a BFM student at the IAD, one by a NAFTA student at the IAD, one by an IAD student at the NAFTA and one by an IAD student at the BFM.

From a practical point of view, the directing student goes to a host school during 20 days for an initial survey of the location, the host school proposes him/her 5 different subjects for his/her documentary, the directing student is free to choose one of these 5 subjects or to find another one.

The directing student goes back to his/her own school to work on his/her screenplay. He/she then returns to the host school where he/she will make the film with an IAD/BFM/NATFA triangular team and will further work on the editing and mixing with students from the host school too. This second phase will last 36 days.

As the audiovisual sector is playing an increasingly important role on the cultural scene, in our everyday life and in the economic sphere, it is crucial for audiovisual school students to open themselves to the outside world and learn to work with European teams.

The purpose of the project is also to help promote cultural diversity and to contribute to the emergence of networks between the future audiovisual professionals in Europe. Getting to know each other, learning to work together, giving young European audiovisual students (directors, directors of photography and cameramen, sound engineers and production managers) the opportunity to get a taste of what is done in another EU Member State, to share their vision, feelings and projects with teachers and students living and studying in Belgium, Bulgaria and Estonia will feed everyone's imagination and provide students with an enriching work and life experience as well as the opportunity to set up privileged relationships with the future European audiovisual professionals of tomorrow.
