Lifelong Learning Programme
Being aware of the increasing need to internationalize academic programmes, the IAD has decided to take an active part in the development and consolidation of a European Artistic Higher Education Area for the institutions providing vocational training in the field of audiovisual and dramatic arts. The IAD is willing to develop partnerships with other schools and institutions within the E.U. By fostering students and teachers mobility, the IAD intends to give to the students and teachers from the performing arts schools in the E.U the opportunity to broaden their social, artistic and cultural experience and thereby to contribute to shaping a European identity. In order to facilitate the students and teachers access to the exchanges between such schools and institutions, the IAD has applied for the Erasmus programme of the European Union and has been awarded an Erasmus University Charter by the European Commission since 2005.
Erasmus University Charter, an excerpt from the IAD European Strategy Declaration
The European strategy declaration of the IAD has taken into account the opinions and conclusions issued during various European seminars dedicated to the exchanges between audiovisual and drama schools.
In order to ensure a profitable and useful exchange of students betweeen audiovisual and drama schools, several constraints must be taken into consideration.
In art schools, students follow theoretical courses and participate actively in practical and artistic workshops where they improve and practice their technical skills and artistic sense. Students are not only expected to learn but also to create. This creative work is built around a collaborative project carried out by a team. Each individual member of the team must have specific qualifications and skills (director, associate director, continuity girl/man, framer, director of photography; sound recordist, director of special effects, editor, ...).
In order to facilitate the integration of the student in his/her new working environment whilst giving him/her the chance to actually confront his/her knowledge and skills with those of his/her host school, many audiovisual and drama schools give priority to exchanges which are organized with the aim to produce a collaborative work .

- Art schools lay the emphasis on practical learning from workshops and teamwork. Furthermore, to learn and work in the best possible conditions, each team must have the material and equipment necessary to carry out the selected project. The organization of workshops with team members pertaining to the different areas of expertise and the availability of adequate equipment are two requirements which must be strictly complied with.
- The exchanges between the schools must be balanced (one student coming in /one student going out per department/craft) to fit into the workshops planning of the respective schools, to make sure that all teams are complete and that all students have the equipment required to accomplish their work.
